Part:3

HOW DOES THE LOGIC OF "NEEDING TO USE
THE WORLD'S MUSIC TO REACH THE WORLD"
BREAK DOWN?

3.IT IS WRONG TO USE CARNAL MUSIC TO
PRESENT A HOLY MESSAGE.

The confusion of trying to teach the world
about God using worldly music is graphically
illustrated in Scripture. When Babylonians were
resettled in Israel and began to be devoured by
lions, they asked the king to send them a prophet of
God so they could learn how to worship Him.
The priest came and taught them how they
should fear the Lord. However, he did not require
them to destroy their gods. The result is described
in II Kings 17:33 "They feared the Lord, and
served their own gods..."

Chemistry-Do we take drugs to win addicts?
Language-Do we use curse words to witness?
Math-Do we steal to identify with robbers?
Art-Do we draw lewd pictures to present Christ?
Music-Do we use carnal music to gain a hearing?

Why is carnal music ineffective for achieving lasting
spiritual results?

"...the weapons of our warfare are not
carnal..." (II Corinthians 10:4-5).

"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong
holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalteth into captivity every thought to
the obedience of Christ" (II Cor 10:4-5).

Do Biblical words make a worldly song Christian?

Principles of clean and unclean-
Haggai 2:12-13.
Christians cannot make worldly music clean;
worldly music will make Christians unclean.

"If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his
garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or meat, shall it be
holy? And the priests answered and said, No. Then
said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body
touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the
priests answered and said, It shall be unclean"
(Haggai 2:12-13.)

"...Touch not the unclean thing..."
(II Corinthians 6:17).

"Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not
the unclean thing; and I will receive you" (II Cor. 6:17).

Did God design music to present the Gospel?

God ordained preaching, not music, to win
the lost - I Corinthians 1:21.

"For after that in the wisdom of God the
world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by
the foolishness of preaching to save them that
believe" (ICor 1:21).

What are the two purposes of Christian music?

Music is to edify Christians and to praise God -
Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16.

"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in
your heart to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:19).

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in
all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one
another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord"
(Colossians 3:16).

Why can't carnal music be mixed with Godly words?

Carnal music and spiritual words do not mix;
they war against each other - Galatians 5:17.

"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and
the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary
the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would" (Galatians 5:17).

Who was severely punished for trying to use worldly
methods to carry out God's work?

God's work is not to be done with worldly
methods - David and ox cart -
I Chronicles 13, 15.

King David attempted to transport the ark of
the covenant to Jerusalem.
However, he used the wrong method. He put the ark on
an oxdrawn cart. David copied this method from the
heathen. The Philistines had used a cart to transport
the ark several years earlier.
Some methods may work for non-Christians
that will not work for Christians! The results of this
method were disastrous for David. One man was
killed; David became angry at God; and the huge
procession ended without success.
There was a clear reason why the method of
transporting the ark on a cart did not work. God
had given precise instructions on how the ark was
to be moved.
It was to be carried on the shoulders of the four priests.
(See II Samuel 6:1-19)
